This TeachMeet will be an opportunity to hear from a range of institutions on how they have made use, in their own practice, of the information and ideas from workshops or conferences they have attended.

10:00 – 10:20 - AI in HE: Walking the Tightrope. Adam Duffield (UCLan)
A look at how to engage with staff and students regarding the rise of AI technology in the Academic space. How do we balance the potential dangers it poses with the opportunities it offers?
10:20 – 10:40 - Nuggets learned from UKSG Glasgow 2023 & USTLG University of Sheffield 2023. Bob Frost, Lancaster University
Bob will discuss how a deeper understanding of the Open Access side of Scholarly Communications enabled new databases to be integrated into sessions for college/6th Form students to aid in their transition to Higher Education. Additionally, Bob will share how an inspiring presentation delivered by Laura Woods from University of Sheffield motivated to update the language used within his training materials and delivery style.

A presentation at last year’s LILAC (delivered by Laura Williams from University of Huddersfield) provided opportunities to myth-bust and explore perceptions of university libraries, acted as an icebreaker, and opened conversation between participants. This session aims to pass on what was learnt, and to suggest how this creative approach to teaching might be introduced into your own practice.
11:00 – 11:25 'Race across the library - Demystifying the library space'. Mark Ogden, University of Huddersfield
To combat known issues and demystify the space we organised a 'Race around the library'; a day long event where students would compete in small teams to complete a series of timed challenges, in the process learning about what the library offers and familiarising themselves with the space. This talk will explore the rationale, planning and running of the event, and the positive feedback and benefits.
11:30 – 12:15 Collaborative Connections: Enhancing Library Skills Through Group Activities. Presentation and group activity. Louise Smith, UCLan
At the 2023 Summer UHMLG conference, Isla Khun set a group activity for delegates to learn more about emerging AI tools through discussing their potentials and pitfalls and then presenting findings to the rest of the group. This format of learning was adapted and developed into a library skills workshop for veterinary medicine students. Attendees of the teach meet will engage in a short group activity.
